While making a stop in Brunswick, Georgia, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fly near the iconic Sydney Lanier Bridge—even if the weather wasn’t ideal. The sky was heavy with clouds, casting a gray tone over the marshes and water, but I still managed to get a few dramatic shots from the air. Sometimes, that soft, diffused light tells a story all its own.
The Sydney Lanier Bridge, completed in 2003, replaced an older vertical-lift bridge and was built to allow larger ships access to the Port of Brunswick. It’s named after the Georgia-born poet Sidney Lanier and is the tallest cable-stayed bridge in the state, standing at 486 feet tall. For reference, I had to stay under 400 feet due to FAA regulations since I was flying at a distance from the bridge—so while I couldn’t quite reach the top, I got a solid vantage point that still captures its scale and presence.
I definitely plan to return when the weather clears up to catch it with better lighting and maybe even a sunrise backdrop. But for now, I’m glad I didn’t leave empty-handed.
If you’re interested in capturing coastal infrastructure, architecture, or landscapes like this with professional drone photography—whether for personal, commercial, or creative use—I’d love to help.
