On August 2nd, I had the opportunity to capture a fascinating project at the Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus. About a month prior, I was told a large crane would be on-site to install new HVAC equipment on the hospital roof. While the crane turned out to be smaller than originally expected, it was still a pretty impressive piece of machinery and more than capable of getting the job done.

The system being installed was a DOAS (Dedicated Outside Air System), manufactured by Nortek Air Solutions sold by Tom Barrow Co. This kind of HVAC system is designed to improve indoor air quality by bringing in fresh, conditioned air from outside. It’s a big upgrade for any facility—especially one as important as a hospital.

Florida Mechanical handled the transport and crane lift portion of the job, making sure each component made it up to the roof safely. From there, WW Gay took over, managing the installation and ensuring everything was set up and functioning as intended.

It was genuinely cool to watch the whole process play out, and I was able to get some great aerial coverage of the event.

The system was delivered in three pieces. The first and third units were photographed as they were lifted into place. You can see how precise and coordinated the lift had to be to get everything onto the roof safely.

From above, you really get a sense of the scale and coordination involved in a job like this. Thanks to the professionals from Florida Mechanical, WW Gay, and Tom Barrow Co., this hospital now has a modern DOAS system to keep the air fresh and safe.
